I dont post zoot pix very often, but thought you might like to see the quality of the zoot available at the MGS. From my bud Maurice Roy, from the Canadian Queen Charlotte Islands (thats west of the Alaska panhandle for those who may be geographically challenged) I bought this flitch cut set of bearclaw tops ....its all salvage wood as well .. he never cuts down trees, this stuff is lying on the forest floor. He told me he had to stop cutting bearclaw a few weeks back .. he was too tired and there was too much of it.

Nice tops.
Are they heavy compared to sitka without B-claw?
Are they dry enough to use?

We met Maurice 2 years ago at the MGS and got some nice yellow Cedar and spruce from him.
What a character,at the luthiers party he was doing shots of cognac
well into the wee hours.
The next day he was a bit rough around the edges !
When I asked how he was feeling his replay was "how do you say in Amarican.....hung over like a b-----d .

Good score Tony.

I didnt even bother to ask how dry they were .. they certainly arent wet, they ping pretty nice. These wont get used for at least a couple years, and then will get baked anyway. I dont find all that much difference between plain and BC .. each set ahs its own qualities, and you atke it for what it is (as any builder should). I deflection test prior to bracing, so who knows where they will end up, depends on the body size as well ...

Yeah Maurice is a character for sure .. Sunday he was telling me that the night before his cousin calls him up, hadnt seen him in 4 years, and says ... hey lets go get drunk .. so they did !!!! His Mom came down to the old city to pick them up, and as he says, she took care of us !!!. Needless to say he was a little rough the next day ...

Hey Tony, this is Jyme from down close to Galveston, I'd like to get a price on a piece or two of the bear claw. That stuff looks great.
